Twelve Michelman & Robinson, LLP (M&R) partners were named to the list of 2016 Southern California Super Lawyers. This is the second straight year that Michelman & Kravetz made the Top 100 list. Super Lawyers is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Only five percent of lawyers practicing in each region are selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers annually. Each year, the research team at Super Lawyers Magazine undertakes a rigorous multi-phase selection process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, independent evaluation of candidates by the attorney-led research staff, a peer review of candidates by practice area and a good-standing and disciplinary check.
Michelman & Robinson, LLP is representing Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker lead singer and songwriter, David Lowery, in a class action lawsuit seeking $150 million in damages from Spotify for copyright infringement. The suit alleges that the music streaming company knowingly, willingly, and unlawfully reproduces and distributes copyrighted compositions without first obtaining mechanical licenses.

Lowery’s lawyer, Sanford Michelman, says Spotify may owe tens of millions of dollars not just in unpaid royalties but for copyright infringement, which can run as high as 150-thousand dollars per violation.
“I hope that Spotify acts in a corporately reasonable manner,” says Sanford Michelman, the lead attorney for the class. “These individuals – especially songwriters – put their hearts and souls in their works.”
Mona Hanna, an attorney representing the class with Michelman & Robinson, told Courthouse News that Spotify knew Lowery objected to the use of his songs without his consent, but “played them nevertheless.”
“He has been very vocal with respect to his concerns and objections over his songs being played without his consent and approval,” Hanna said.

Michelman & Robinson, LLP (“M&R”) secured a significant victory this week for client, Robert Cayton, Jr., when in addition to costs, it obtained attorneys’ fees in the amount of $1,081,500 against his former employer, USA National Title Company, Inc. (USA), in Orange County Superior Court.
Last year, led by partner Mona Hanna, M&R helped Cayton, the former executive vice president of USA, avert damages potentially totaling $264 million. USA brought 10 causes of action including that Cayton breached his contract and stole trade secrets, and accused his current employer, Lawyers Title, of courting customers, alleging $14 million in lost profits, and $250 million in lost value to the company. After a seven-week trial, a jury found against the plaintiffs on all counts.

Michelman & Robinson, LLP (M&R) launched a new, cutting-edge, website in the Fall of 2014. Since then, the Firm has been recognized with the following website design awards:
1. Graphic Design USA, a leading graphic design magazine and sponsor of the highly competitive American Web Design Awards, recognized M&R with a certificate excellence. The awards, which goes to only 15% of entries, is for website design, only communications capabilities and functionality.
